ACDEC Bringing the 60s to the Books

The first man in space, the MLK and Kennedy assassinations, the miniskirt, and the Cold War are all potential subjects for next years topic.

Academic Decathlon is a class composed of intellectuals competing against each other for the A, B, and C rankings.

The students in the class study from the start of the school year to the qualifying test in November, where the nine students with the highest scores are chosen for the team.

Next years’ material is from the 1960s era which includes the supercomputer, the first internet sent message, and the civil rights protests, a drastic contrast to this years topic: Africa.

“The students didn’t make it as far as they wanted to this year but next year they hope to do better.” Mrs. Archer, the director of ACDEC said.
