The UIL competition season started off with Show Choir Showcase, featuring schools like Arlington High School, Seguin High School, Martin High School, and Lamar High School.  The UIL event was held at Martin High School on Friday, February 22nd.

Encore show choir rocked the night away with the songs “Feel It Still” by Portugal the Man, “Another Brick In The Wall” by Pink Floyd, “Shout it Out Loud” by Kiss, Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell” and Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It”.

Harmony show choir performed a medley of songs by the artist P!nk, including “Just Like Fire”, “Get The Party Started”, Raise Your Glass”, “Blow Me One Last Kiss”, “Trouble”, and “So What”. Madrigals “Took Back The Night” with their medley of Justin Timberlake songs including “Can’t Stop The Feeling”, “4 Minutes”, “TKO”, “Suit & Tie”, “Cry Me A River”, “My Love”, “Take Back The Night”, and “Mirrors”. All of Lamar’s Show Choirs earned One ratings with all of their hard work and rehearsals.

“All of the show choirs that were at Showcase made it feel more like a concert rather than a competition,” said Harmony Show Choir member Emily Tackett.

Every group that participated in Showcase cheered each other on and made each other feel welcome.

UIL season has only just begun, with there still being many competitions to be held.

Blue Curtain Productions will take on other schools with their One-Act play, “Anatomy of Grey”.

“We haven’t advanced for the past five years, so we’re super excited to be competing this year!” said Emily Johnson, director of Blue Curtain.

Academic, athletic, and music competitions are coming up quick, with the Film State Festival being held March 5th and Solo & Ensemble contests for music classes coming to an end on March 16th.

Every contestant competing at UIL has worked very hard to bring their A-game to the table, which has made this UIL season start out strong.
