Construction affects activities across district

Since June, construction shut down the entire campus causing staff, counselors, and custodial workers shifted to other district campuses. The school underwent many different areas of updates and revisions.

“In 2014 our district held a bond election, which is when they decide what areas needed revisions, they give us money to make a number of revisions that would benefit the school. The district outlines an extraordinary amount of money in bonds to complete the different construction in waves,” said Principal Andy Hagman, “Thats why all the construction hit Lamar in this last year.”

The new auditorium has received many modern renovations. Some of the modern renovations consist of brand new auditorium seats, lighting, audio, and curtains.

“The updated technology in the auditorium makes putting on shows a lot easier,” said Blue Curtain member William Crane.

Other forms of construction taking place at Lamar is the new lighting displayed in the hallways located in the foreign language hall, and also the replacement of the brick walls to the tile walls located on the west side of the school. Inside of many classrooms located on the west side of the building, there are new lights, air condition units, and carpet that make the learning environment in these classrooms more effective.

“The new lights and upgrades in the classroom makes focusing in class easier, and it helps me get my work done more efficiently,” said senior Tatiyanna Fay.

Not only has the construction transformed the inside of the school, but it continues on to the outside of the school. The parking spots have been renewed with brand new pavement, and paint to make parking easier. Changes made to the crosswalk like the implications of new traffic lights and crosswalk lights have also made crossing to the other side of the road more easier and safer.

“The biggest impact of the construction would probably be the air condition and heating units,” said Assistant Principal Brad Davis, “It makes it more comfortable for the students.”

While students must adjust themselves to the new changes, administration remains hopeful that the changes will create a safer, ideal environment for everyone.
